20 B Chequer - 22 M Nash de Villers

The IHRO Continental Circus visited its spiritual home at Schleiz in Germany on the weekend of 12-14th June. Schleiz embodies all that IHRO stands for, Historic Racing on a truly magnificent historic circuit with a fantastic atmosphere and friendly organisation.

It was however, the end of an era, for when the starting flag fell on the 500cc race at 1400 on Sunday afternoon, it was the last ever push start for IHRO, and probably the last ever for any motorcycle event anywhere in the world!.

The IHRO 2009 season opened at a dry and sunny Mettet with an inauspicious start for Lea Gourlay who managed to over brake Roger Winfield’s Aermacchi at the chicane on the first lap. Picking himself up, it was a determined Gourlay who continued on only to fall again at the chicane, this time half way round it, a few laps later, the machine damage was so severe from this second accident as to make the machine unusable for the weekend, this was to prove to be a real shame as Gourlay was the only rider remotely close to the very ‘on form’ Luke Notton on his Seeley 7R. Notton dominated the practice session, which set a pattern for the weekend’s races. Fastest 250 was Mick Nash De Villiers some 10 seconds faster than second place Bernie Chequer on his Ducati.

40 A Oversby - 24 M Cooper

The IHRO Continental Circus had a severe change in weather after Djursland when it went to the last meeting of the year at the CRMC Race of the Year event at Brands Hatch in the UK.

The Saturday race was mainly dry, although with a few spots of rain towards the end of the race, but Sunday’s race was held in terrible conditions. The whole of the Sunday event was run with reduced laps due to the weather after a night of wind and rain which saw many awnings disappearing and rivers running down the paddock, conditions were so poor that many people packed up and went home.

16 V Jensen - 116 C DallyBeautiful weather greeted the IHRO Continental Circus as it paid its first visit to Denmark for the International Classic TT at Ring Djursland near Arhus on the west coast of the country.

The circuit is quite small at 1.425kms long but it is a demanding and technical track with a surprising amount of height variation over its length and a number of banked corners which all added up to a good fun circuit where rider ability was of a great an importance as machine speed.

This was the first ever classic only meeting in Denmark and the organisation of the Vagn Jensen House of Triumph sponsored event was excellent and extremely friendly and the circuit facilities were first class.
