Classic G.old Cup - Mettet, Belgium - 10-11 May 2008

mettet.gif IHRO is once again delighted to return to this famous Belgian circuit. The track is essentially a high speed triangle, a very high speed back straight which is downhill makes this one of the fastest road circuit still in use in Europe. IHRO has a long association with this track and it is a firm favourite of all riders. Although the famous sweeping downhill left hand bend after the start has now been removed on safety grounds, the track is still demanding.

24_Snickers_Ducati.jpgThe second Gedinne Belgian Classic TT meeting was run on a circuit that had never looked better thanks to the fantastic amount of work done by the hard working members of the CRMB, ably assisted by riders from just about all over Europe who had arrived early in the week and volunteered to assist the club members in their huge task. The CRMB were duly appreciative and provided Belgian hospitality in the form of food and of course, beer for the workers.

andrea_5_laible_aermacchi_linton.jpgIHRO returned to the popular Belgian circuit of Chimay on the traditional 3rd weekend of July for the 4th race of its 2007 calendar.

Dick Linton arrived at the circuit without any riders for his very quick Aermacchis, Derek Whalley having retired from racing the week before and Tony Rodger still suffering the effects of his Brands Hatch spill, needless to say there was a queue of people who would have liked to ride the bikes, but in the end Dick chose to elevate Eberhard Liable to the position of ‘works’ rider for the 350 class, Dick’s son Mark was the recipient of the 500 class ride. To say that Eberhard was delighted would be the understatement of the year, his normal cheery expression was increased to a huge grin all weekend.

29 L Gaurlay - 28 R Den Tieter - 14 D Hughes ‘Plus Ça Change, Plus C’est la Même Chose’ or ‘The more things change, the more they stay the same’.

Over the winter, there were some changes of machines and riders made among the top teams in IHRO, Lea Gourlay was now riding solely for Roger Winfield on his new 500 Paton and 350 Aermacchi and many predicted a total whitewash of the races as arguably the best rider in IHRO now had arguably the fastest bikes.
