CRMC - Donington Park, England - 28-29 June 2008

The IHRO Continental Circus moved on from Germany to England for the CRMC Donington Classic Revival meeting at the end of June.

The interest in the meeting was high, with much talk about the return to the famous GP circuit, however on the day it transpired that the club had opted to use the short circuit to enable all the entrants to get a ride. The decision was a good one as most classic riders prefer the short circuit which is much more flowing and does not have the two brake killing hairpins of the longer Grand Prix track.

The IHRO Continental Circus moves on from Germany to the UK this weekend.

All riders have been informed of their riding numbers and starting information directly by the CRMC, the only major change is that the meeting has now been moved to the short circuit and not the Grand Prix circuit in order to accommodate the huge number of entries.

IHRO had a very interesting display of machines at the Race Retro Show at Stoneleigh.

In previous years we have had displays with an Italian theme, this year the theme was Seeley. We had John Cooper’s Mk1, Alan Windsor’s Mk2, Malcolm Wheeler’s Mk3 and Duncan Dunbar’s Mk4 all with G50 engines.

Once the spectators realised what was there, there were a lot of favourable comments and a great deal of serious talking was undertaken, such a pleasant change from race meetings when we are often too busy to chat.

I am looking for ideas for a theme for next year.

Please note that the Donington Park date has changed to 28-29 June 2008

The original Donington track was opened in 1931, and initially used for motorcycle races.

The circuit was closed in 1939 due to World War 2, when it became a military vehicle depot. In the early 1970s the circuit was bought by Tom Wheatcroft, who funded the rebuilding of the track, which was re-opened May 27, 1977.

Now the venue for the Britsh round of the MotoGP championship and it is the 4,023 kms Grand prix circuit which we will be using.

IHRO is pleased to be associated again with the longest existing classic racing motorcycle club in the world, indeed both organisations were founded by the same man, Alan Cathcart. This year again we are running at one of the most popular of UK circuits with the CRMC.

IHRO is pleased to be associated with the Race Retro Show for the 3rd consecutive year.

Although primarily a car event, there is a large section devoted to motorcycles and IHRO is one of the major displays in that area.
